Ibrahim Kombarji is an architect, researcher, and writer based in New York. ibrahimkombarji@gmail.com
Anchored in exhibition-making and art direction, his work focuses on architectures of display, examining how spatial and material conditions negotiate relationships between artworks, institutions, and publics, and how exhibitions participate in the politics of attention and the production of cultural value. Through his practice, he develops projects with artists including Louis Fratino, Joanna Piotrowska, Peter Hujar Archive, and with institutions such as Mudam Luxembourg, The Art Institute of Chicago with Centro Pecci, the Saudi Ministry of Culture, Pioneer Works, Pinacoteca Agnelli, Maharam, The Common Guild Glasgow, Galerie Neu, and Sotheby’s.
Previously based in Milan, he was a longtime collaborator of Formafantasma, working across exhibition design, research, and creative direction on projects for La Biennale di Venezia, Prada, Artek, and UNESCO’s Pearling Path. He teaches at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), where he also serves as Creative Director.
